Overview of the Cat Gate Installation

The design of our cat gate was made to be both easy to install and easy to use. The installation location possibilities are nearly endless – Retract-A-Gate can be installed between two walls, within a doorway or walkway, around the corner of a doorway or opening, at the top or bottom of a stairway, from a wall to a banister spindle or post, and even at an angle, very often without needing additional accessories. Ours is the only retractable safety gate on the market that can be used with such versatility and bring you such high standards in safety and durability.

Four mounting brackets are included with each gate for installation. Each bracket needs about 6cm of flat surface to attach to, and they will mount at 8cm and 77.5cm from the floor on both sides of the opening. It is important to ensure that the horizontal distance between each pair of upper and each pair of lower brackets is exactly the same. This will make sure that the cat gate will fit squarely in the space. Installation Accessories

• Wall Spacer Set: Wall spacers will be used when the installation surface is not level, or has moulding or skirting boards. The spacers are used between the wall and the mounting brackets so the bracket position can be adjusted. This keeps the brackets equally spaced within the installation opening so that the gate stays square. Similarly, they are used when moulding or a skirting board is present so that the brackets can be extended out from the surface of the wall, and the gate operation will not be hindered by the moulding or skirting board.
• Stair Banister Adapter Kit: When wanting to install the gate to a stair banister spindle or post, but without drilling holes in the posts, the adaptor can be strapped to a variety of posts or railings, including wrought iron. The adaptor creates a surface where the mounting brackets can be attached.
• Additional Universal Mounting Bracket Kit: The cat gate comes with a bracket kit, but if you desire to move your gate to another location, you’ll need to install an Additional Universal Mounting Bracket Kit in that location. You can install as many additional bracket kits as needed – and you’ll be able to move your gate to all of the locations quickly and easily, and without the need to purchase another gate.
• Plasterboard Anchor Kit: When installing directly to plasterboard surfaces, the plasterboard anchor kit will be needed. The anchor will prevent the screws from pulling easily out of the wall.

How easy is it to operate the cat gate?

You can operate the cat gate in three simple steps!

1. Pull the handle to pull the mesh across, then hook the handle into the opposite brackets.
2. Easily push and turn the lock mechanism to secure the gate in place.
3. Put all the other cat gates you have in the trash!

You will install a set of two low-profile brackets to both sides of the area that you desire to block off (total of four brackets).  After the brackets are installed, snap the reel side of the cat gate into one set of brackets on one side of the opening.  Grasp the handle to pull the mesh fabric gate out and hook the handle into the opposite brackets. Then simply push and turn the lock to secure the gate in place. This easy, one-handed process is simple for an adult to maneuver, but impossible for a cat!
